Case Studies

Anna Louise
Anna Louise received a grant to help her through a Diploma in Historic Carving at
the City & Guilds of London Art School. She now runs her own studio in North London.
Anna's capability in design, drawing, modelling and carving has led to a variety
of commissions and projects, involving historic ornament, contemporary sculpture,
public lettering and private memorials.
"I passed my Diploma in Historic Carving with First Class Honours. I must thank you
for your support and I hope that you feel it was worthwhile. I certainly could not
have gone so far without your help."
The Furniture Station (1097219)
The Furniture Station is a registered charity and an anti-poverty initiative in
Stockport, supplying re-usable, essential items of furniture and white goods to
individuals and families in need within the Borough of Stockport. Each year they
support over 1200 individuals and families within the Borough of Stockport.
In 2009 they were awarded a grant from the Trust, which they used to purchase 10
double beds. They later told us "Your grant has allowed us to make provisions for
10 families, meaning they can have a proper nights sleep and so will be making a
real difference in peoples’ lives."

Mike
Mike received grants from the Trust in 2006 and 2007 towards the cost of his medical
degree. In 2010 he successfully graduated from St Georges University of London and
began work as a junior doctor.
"Medical school as a mature student has its own different stresses and strains, not
least of which can be finances. I presented my case to the Thomas Wall Trust and
was delighted when the Trustees granted me with £1,000 to aid in my studies. Without
organisations such as the Thomas Wall Trust, I think many people from poorer backgrounds
and mature students such as myself would 'fall by the wayside' and not succeed for
all the wrong reasons. I am now a fully qualified doctor working in Staffordshire
and am well aware that I owe a good degree to the Thomas Wall Trust."
Volunteer Link Scheme (VLS)
VLS provides one-to-one volunteer befriending to older and disabled people within
the London Borough of Ealing. They have 46 volunteer befrienders who visit 52 clients
every week. Volunteers are intensively trained to ensure they are fully supported
in what they do but they had spotted a gap when it came to First Aid Training. The
Trust awarded a grant to help get this training off the ground.

Ross
26-year old Ross applied for help to become a heavy goods driver. He had already
invested all his savings into training and contacted haulage and transport companies
within a 50-mile radius of his home, but no one would offer him work without additional
qualifications.
"Thanks to the grant I am employed on a permanent basis and adding to my HGV driving
experience every working day. I am very grateful to the Trust for helping me achieve
my goals!"
Let Us Play
Let Us Play provides sports, arts and play activities for children with special
needs and disabilities in the Wolverhampton area. They encourage siblings to attend,
and parents or carers can go along to meet and socialise with other families. The
Thomas Wall Trust were able to help with a grant towards the costs of running a
children’s cookery project.
