Guidelines on Awards to Charitable Organisations

  1. There is no special application form for charitable organisations to use except that all applicants must complete the cover sheet and supply a copy of the latest available set of accounts for their charity. Please note that incomplete applications will not be processed.
  2. The applying organisation, movement or institution has to be a registered charity.
  3. The object must be in a broad sense educational and/or concerned with social service.
  4. The application should preferably be for some specific scheme or objective, but in some cases single grants will be considered towards general running costs.
  5. Small charities and small schemes are preferred to large national ones.
  6. Successful applicants will normally not receive recurrent funding.
  7. Successful applicants can only reapply after five years.
  8. Grants are not made:
    a) Towards the erection, upkeep or renovation of buildings.
    b) To hospitals, almshouses or similar institutions.
    c) For objects which are purely medical.
    d) For projects outside of the UK.
  9. Grants for equipment may be provided but only if the equipment serves a direct educational purpose.
  10. A grant would not normally exceed £1000.
  11. The Trustees meet twice a year, in July and November. Applications for the July meeting must be received by mid-May and for the November meeting by end of September.
  12. Applications should be made to the Charities Officer, Thomas Wall Trust, Skinners’ Hall, 8 Dowgate Hill, London EC4R 2SP enclosing a stamped self-addressed envelope which will be used to acknowledge receipt of application.
  13. Only successful applicants will be notified by the Trust.
