Guidelines on Awards to Individuals
- The Trustees consider applications from UK nationals only who are in financial
need and who wish to undertake educational courses at any level and duration, especially
courses which are vocational or are concerned with social service in a broad sense
and which will lead to paid employment. Exceptions to this policy are given below.
- Grants normally supplement assistance received from other sources, and have a current
maximum value of £1000 p.a. The Trustees require to be satisfied that the applicant
will have sufficient funds to complete the proposed course, and also that the course
is reasonable in cost and cannot be equally well pursued at less cost elsewhere.
- Grants are not made:
a) to those who are undertaking a full-time first degree and who qualify for a student
loan;
b) for travel, study or work-experience abroad;
c) for elective periods or intercalated courses;
d) for attendance at conferences;
e) for research or study for higher degrees by research (e.g.MRes,, M.Phil,Ph.D);
f) for additional qualifications to persons already qualified in that field;
g) to schoolchildren.
- The Trustees support both full-time and part-time vocational courses and will look
favourably at part-time courses which allow the applicant to continue with paid
employment to help meet the costs.
- The Trustees require the submission of an
application form completed in full.
- Applications may be made from 1st January each year and will be considered as long
as available funds allow ( normally the budget for individual grants is fully committed
by the end of July prior to the start of the next academic year). Applications will
not be considered for courses in the current academic year but only for courses
starting or continuing in the next academic year.
- Only successful applicants will be notified by the Trust.
