Jo-Anne Baird is Professor of Education at Oxford University and a Professorial Fellow at St Anne’s College. She represents the University of Oxford on the board of trustees. Jo-Anne is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and the Association for Educational Assessment-Europe. In 2019 she was awarded an Honorary Degree from the University of Bergen. She currently directs the Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment.
Jo-Anne’s research interests relate to making assessment systems fairer and more equitable. She works a lot with governments and industry to develop policy. Recent projects include how the general public viewed standards of qualifications during Covid, how government uses expertise in policy-making and the resilience of assessment systems to system shocks. As a first generation university student and recipient of free school meals, she has a keen interest in social justice and the capacity of education to transform people’s lives.
